As part of the activities for International Night, the Beavers learned about life in Kyrgyzstan. A big thank you to James’ mum for sharing her experiences of the country.
This week the Beavers took part in an activity walk around Somersall Park. A big thank you to the parent volunteers who helped out on the night. Everyone enjoyed a well earned bag of chips at the end of the night.
The weather was very wet during the week, but it brightened up a bit for the hike on Friday night, and all the Beavers had a great time.
Construction – April & May 2018
As part of he second half of the Builder Badge, Beavers followed their plans to create puppets, gardens and a castle.
Both the Cub and Beaver sections took part in a rock painting night with UK Rocks. Part of the ‘Be Kind initiative‘ intended to make people smile. The idea is that decorated rocks are hidden in local parks for people to find, pictures of found rocks are shared on their Facebook page. Everyone had a great time and a donation was given to the local Monkey Park.
The Beavers learnt about caring for plants as part of their Gardening Badge. They also created planters to bring more colour to the church grounds.
The Scouts have recently had two Morrisons bag pack fundraising events, held at our local Morrisons store, just off Chatsworth Road. We are very grateful to all the staff at Morrisons (particularly supervisors and till operators) who made our Scouts feel very welcome and at ease during their time in-store.
As well as raising funds for the Group, the activity also develops the confidence of our Scouts (many of whom are still in primary School) by getting them to interact with, and help out people they do not already know, as well as giving them an appreciation of the value of the donations provided.
Hope all the Scouts enjoyed the Morrison bag pack on Friday night – you raised £182. Leaders and Morrisons staff all thought you did a great job, not only packing bags, but also with other jobs that needed doing in the store. That was the practice run…
A huge thank you to the leaders, Scouts and parents involved in today’s Morrison’s bag pack. We maned a number of tills throughout the day and raised an amazing £381.16 (plus a Euro, Australian and Canadian coin). A special mention goes to our assistant Scout leader Ant who was there from the start at 8.45 am to the end at 4.30pm, and Julia who organised us all – thank you so much for all your efforts!
Chesterfield District’s Annual St Georges Day Parade and Promise Renewal will take place on Sunday April 22nd. As in previous years, the parade will assemble in front of the Town Hall and march to the Parish Church. All Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Young Leaders and Leaders are expected to attend in full uniform. (From past experience it could be a bit chilly and therefore everyone should wear a layer or two under their uniform.)
