Volunteering at 3rd Brampton Scout Group — Making a Real Difference in Derbyshire

May 24, 2026 By scoutsrule Leave a Comment

Volunteering with 3rd Brampton Scout Group in Holymoorside, Chesterfield offers a powerful way to invest in your local community, support young people’s growth, and be part of something truly special. As a Scout group rooted in decades of history and community spirit, 3rd Brampton gives volunteers the chance to shape positive childhood experiences and unlock life-changing opportunities for young people across Derbyshire.

Who Are 3rd Brampton Scouts?

3rd Brampton (St Thomas’) Scout Group meets at St Thomas’ Church in Holymoorside and welcomes young people from around the area, typically aged around 4 to 14.5 years old. The group runs weekly activities and focuses on personal development, teamwork, and outdoor adventure — all delivered by a dedicated team of adult volunteers.

Whether it’s Squirrels, Beavers, Cubs, or Scouts, each section brings its own energy and opportunities for youngsters to grow — and each benefits enormously from the time and enthusiasm that volunteers bring.

What Does a Volunteer Do?

Volunteering with 3rd Brampton doesn’t require any special background in scouting — what matters most is a desire to help young people thrive. Volunteers can get involved in lots of different ways:

???? Work directly with young people
You might help deliver activities, support games and challenges, encourage teamwork, or simply be a friendly adult presence at weekly meetings. Volunteers help create a safe, inclusive, and supportive space where Scouts can learn core life skills.

???? Support events and camps
From day trips to weekend camps, Scout outings are highlights of the calendar — and volunteers play a key role in planning, organisation, and supervision, giving young people unforgettable experiences.

???? Behind-the-scenes roles
Not all help involves being in front of a group. You could assist with admin, fundraising, equipment management, communications, or even maintenance tasks — all of which help keep the group running smoothly.

Why Volunteering Really Matters

At its heart, scouting is about helping young people gain confidence, resilience, and skills for life. But volunteering benefits the community just as much as it benefits the Scouts themselves:

???? Build stronger community ties
By supporting local young people and families, volunteers help strengthen connections in Brampton and beyond.

???? Learn and grow personally
Volunteers often discover new skills — from leadership and communication to teamwork and planning — that are valuable in all areas of life.

???? Feel good doing good
Giving your time to help others has emotional benefits too. Many volunteers report increased well-being, confidence, and a deeper sense of purpose. scouts.org.uk
